I surely underdstand why you have the failsafe min waste factor set @ 1 min. for the Bdft pricing waste field. I think I would like to be able to alter the waste factor below 1 for the LF field. This would generate the best possible material report for purchasing etc. and PM efforts after bidding. I...

Moulding Entry from lf stock

I am using the Autoentry for moulds window to mill 300 lf 1 1/4x1 1/4" s4s ipe from 2x4 ipe (LinFt stock not BdFt stock) . I tried to enter this as mill from LFstock and modified my waste factor to .5 (to account for 2 parts per lf) but when I ran a material report and reviewed costs I still got a m...

How to call out for a mailbox/cubby cabinet

I've got a plam mailbox cabinet 5'wide x 4' tall with 4 vertical dividers and 9 fixed shelves in each bay (50 openings total). A)If I bid it as a 000W cab with 4 vert. dividers and 9 fixed shelves I don't get enough labor for the 45 individual shelves and doweled joints. B)If I bid it as a 000W cab ...

solid surface tops

I have experimented with 2 ways to estimate solid surface tops. 1)Custom item - I get my labor broken down into different labor groups real well using this , but seems to double my takeoff time compared with using the Cabinet/Countertop takeoff area 2)Cabinet/Countertop area - faster but I have less...

takeoff sheet - added subtotal row?!

You mentioned you were working on an update , I have a thought for a small but useful improvement. On the Takeoff sheet, you have columns for each labor class or type. At the top of each labor column , I would benefit from having a subtotal at the top of these labor columns (maybe at Row 2). Especia...

changing markup on single line items

So I have an alternate 1 buyout entry with my standard markup for buyout items. Then I have alternate 2 buyout entry to substitute a 50% less expensive product in lieu of alternate 1 . I don't want to give up 50% of my margin , can I have different entries (within a type or category) to have differe...

formulas - how far can I go?

Custom library - the use of formulas - can we use spreadsheet formula statements like "if...then...else" and "and" ?
Just wondering where the limits were.

I am thinking "Item Labels" and not part labels. I want each assembly i.e. cabinet , each type of lineal moulding, each door jamb , each countertop, etc. to have a shipping label. This would identify the Job, room , name and size of item, etc so when items get on site they go to the correct location...

Your suggestion sounds like it would get the label data I need into fields of a new spreadsheet. How to automate sending the field data to "autofill" labels is the second part of the operation , and the part I am fumbling over. Would I have to create the labels in a separate word processing program?...

installation - prefin vs raw

So I am reviewing installation hours on mouldings . It appears the hours are setup for prefinished mouldings rates. I need the flexibility to price installation at a faster rate when finish is excluded. What is my best method to achieve this?

updating info into masterfiles

Hey John,
I have a new cabinet spec and a few materials that are in a recently made working estimate file. I would like this info to be in my master file. Do I use the "exchange settings" tool to do this?
