Many customers do not run their own mouldings but would still like to use the moulding autoentry system to quickly takeoff mouldings and include finishing and installation when needed.
There's no problem doing this and there's actually two good ways to do this.
The first, easiest way is to enter mouldings in the material database by the lineal foot. Then create or edit a series of moulding styles, using the mfg labor index number of zero. Then use the appropriate installation labor index so the system will still price installation labor, if needed for a particular project. This method may require you to enter a lot of mouldings in your material database though, given the price difference amongst many species and sizes.
The second, more flexible method is to evaluate mouldnig prices from your moulding supplier and arrive at a bdft price that covers your costs for buy out mouldings by size. That way you can choose different sizes of mouldings duringthe takeoff and have the prices adjust by the price. Often when you try this you'll want to make some small adjustments in the rough width settings of smaller moulding profiles in the moulding style table, which will increase the price of those moulds. Then create or edit moulding styles, using the mfg labor index number of zero. Then use the appropriate installation labor index so the system will still price installation labor, if needed for a particular project. If you want to pursue a bdft method like mentioned here, we do have an Excel worksheet which will aid you thru this process. Just send an email requesting it, and we'll forward it to you.
